Milly and Eugene opens its doors

April 08, 2014

Today, a dream of ours has come to fruition. Our retail shop at 21 Albion Street, Waverley is now open for business. And what a ride it's been. We have already been overcome with best wishes and lovely feedback from local business owners, local residents and our followers and friends on Instagram and Facebook. And are really looking forward to meeting new people in the shop who share a like minded appreciation for our taste in beautiful homewares.

When we first viewed the existing run-down premises of the former paint store, we could see the amazing potential for the shop as well as for the shopping precinct itself. Charing Cross shopping strip is becoming a local hub for new and interesting design shops, each with their own individual edge. We were so excited to have found the site and then we started in on the renos. The place needed a new floor, new ceiling, a new shop front, a paint job, new carpet, electrical work and specialised shelving. It was big. But as always our cherished team of family and friends came together to bring our ideas to reality. They helped us with every aspect of setting up, from emptying the contents of the new container to transporting the load to our shelves, from laying down flooring to building a new counter. They painted, installed IT equipment and constructed our lighting fixtures. A big thank you to them. Our ever-professional photographer and great friend Lee Mariano managed to stay sane and completed the photo shoot for the full range of new products over two days. The man is a genius.

We are both delusional with tiredness but happy, satisfied and grateful that we were able to get the shop ready in the time we had. We think it's pretty special. Now, it's over to you. We look forward to meeting you in the shop some day soon.

When thinking about home interiors, like me, you might cringe at the memory of your childhood home. The best version of our family home was new green carpet and a black high-backed vinyl lounge with orange nylon-cushioned seating. My mother was proud of her modern choices and teamed up the “mod look” with a teak extender dining table and a sliding-door settee. The bright green kitchen cupboards and red laminex kitchen table and chairs were all part of the ‘70’s look.

NORTH FACING HOME
NORTH FACING HOME

January 30, 2019

When we married and had our first child, forty years ago, our search began in earnest, for a home; somewhere to raise our family. In those days, it wasn’t unusual to seek out houses for sale in the classified adds of the Sydney newspaper. And that was how we came across our first home. Situated at the bottom of a hill, looking north over the southern headland of Coogee, we loved it the minute we saw it. It wasn’t grand, with one and a half bedrooms and a tiny kitchen and bathroom, but it was perfect for us.  And I remember thinking that I would never again wish for anything more in my life. Well, that noble thought didn’t last long, because over the next five years two more babies came along and we needed more rooms, more space.
